The Pi Wedge B+ is a small board that connects to the Raspberry Pi Model B+'s 40-pin GPIO connector and breaks out the pins to a breadboard-friendly arrangement and spacing. It also adds a couple of decoupling capacitors to the power supply lines. The Wedge makes the initial bring-up process easier; you can plug a USB-to-Serial 3.3V Module into the built-in serial port so you can monitor the serial line.
The Pi Wedge B+ comes as an easy-to-assemble kit that can be inserted into your Raspberry Pi's GPIO port that allows you to prototype as soon as you are done soldering. It is compatible with both the Raspberry Pi Model B+ and any solderless breadboard (provided it has the adequate number of pins available).
If you have a Raspberry Pi Model A or Model B, with 26-pin GPIO connector, please see the original Pi Wedge.
Assembled Pi Wedge Mounted on Breadboard:
The Pi Wedge B+ reorganizes the I/O pins from the RPi to a more sensible arrangement, putting similar functions on adjacent pins. The SPI, I2C and UART signals are all grouped near each other. This will make prototyping much easier than if you were to plug jumper wires straight into the RPi's GPIO header.
