The im4MOS has four Open Drain outputs capable of switching 3.5A at up to 40V. It uses two high-quality VNS3NV04DP Smart MOSFET chips from ST Microelectronics, each with two outputs. All outputs feature current limitation, ESD protection, thermal shutdown and short-circuit protection.
The outputs can be controlled by 3.3V or 5V logic signals, making this module suitable for Modtronix boards, Arduino, AVR, Microchip PIC or nearly any other project that requires high-power Open Drain (Open Collector) outputs.
This module requires a 5V power supply to power the logic chips and Smart MOSFETs. It is possible to use it with a 3.3V power supply, but the MOSFET on resistance will be a bit higher (for this to work, supply 3.3V to pin header marked 5V).
Each MOSFET input has a logic buffer, ensuring the MOSFET inputs are switched with 5V even when the control input is only 3.3V. The on resistance of the MOSFET gets lower the higher the voltage on its input is. Without the input logic buffers, the MOSFET input would only be at 3.3V when using 3.3V logic to control the outputs. This will work, but the MOSFET on resistance will be higher.
The four outputs, plus two V+ outputs, are available via a 6-pin, 3.5mm Pluggable Terminal Block connector. The two V+ pins on the connector (one on each end) can be configured via two solder jumpers on the board to be either 5V or Vx (voltage on Vx pin). The center pins are marked 2 to 5, and are the four MOSFET outputs that are controlled by inputs 2 through 5.
To control 5V loads: Supply 5V power to the pin header pins marked 0V and 5V Ensure solder jumper marked 5V on front of board is made, and that solder jumper marked Vx is open Connect + side of load to one of the V pins (on either side of terminal block connector) Connect - side of load to one of the outputs, marked 2 to 5 on the terminal block connector Load can now be powered by supplying a 3.3V to 5.5V signal to corresponding inputs 2 to 5 on the pin header IMPORTANT! Ensure control inputs of all unused outputs are tied down to 0V!

- Smart MOSFET chips: ST Microelectronics VNS3NV04DP.
- Logic Buffers: Dual buffer, 1.65-5.5V. Manufacturer is either Fairchild, NXP Semiconductors, or ON Semiconductors.
- Resistor: 470kOhm resistor. Manufacturer is either Rohm, Panasonic, Stackpole, Panasonic or Yageo.
iMod Pin Configuration This is an iMod module with 0.7" pin column width, meaning it uses a standard pinout and configuration that allows it to be connected easily to any host board that has an iMod port. This includes the Modtronix SBC83I, SBC66UAL, and the various PT66E Prototyping Add-ons for other boards in the SBC66 series.
The pin pitch is 0.1" so you can use the module also on any typical prototyping board or breadboard.
Below is some example code for the Netcruzer (SBC66/SBC66+PT66) boards that shows how to turn output 2 on and off if this module is mounted in iMod Port 1.

Pin Header Options Use the Headers option at the bottom of this page to select what type of pin headers you want included with the module and whether you want them included loose or pre-soldered. The default option is for common rectangular pins included loose, as shown in the photo above. All pin header types use 3mm long pins. As this module does not use iMod I/O ports 7-10, the header strips will be six pins long for each side.
Below the header option selector, you will see checkboxes for adding additional header strips, just in case, as well as socket strips that will mate with the Round Swiss pin header type. If you want to install the socket strips on your prototype so that you can plug in this module with Round Swiss pins, make sure to change and Update the quantity of sockets to 2 during checkout.
