Arduino Shield Kit with 0.5mm 12/24-pin QFP/QFN-to-DIP Adapters US$18.00

Arduino Shield Kit with 0.5mm 12/24-pin QFP/QFN-to-DIP Adapters

0.5mm Pitch 12/24-pin QFP/QFN-to-DIP Adapters and Arduino Shield Kit

This kit allows you to design and build an Arduino shield that will use surface-mount chips in 0.5mm-pitch 12- and/or 24-pin QFP/QFN packages — without needing any expert soldering skills.

The kit is a combination of the 0.5mm Pitch 12/24-pin QFP/QFN-to-DIP Adapter PCBs and the Arduino Shield Prototyping Kit.

QFP/QFN-to-DIP Adapter Features

This is a strip of two QFP/QFN-to-DIP adapters with a twist. These have the patented Schmartboard|ez technology to make soldering surface-mount devices easy. Your SMT part will sit in grooves that hold it in place and already have solder in them. So all you need to do is put a chip in the grooves, apply flux, and use a small enough soldering tip.

The adapters ship as a single PCB that can be snapped apart easily, creating two individual boards:

  • One for 12-pin QFN/QFP at 0.5mm pitch, 3×3mm body
  • One for 24-pin QFN/QFP at 0.5mm pitch, 4×4mm body
These boards also include room for 0805 SMT components (e.g. a bypass capacitor), and pads for easy access to ground. Also, a plated hole in the center of the device area allows for the addition of solder to utilize ground pads on the bottom of the device.

A strip of 40 male pin headers is included. This strip also can be snapped apart so that you can create the individual segments needed when these boards have been separated.

Arduino Shield Prototyping Board Features

This prototyping board features an offset through-hole pattern that provides you with greater flexibility than standard through-hole boards. This kit includes all the basic components most Arduino shields need (stackable headers, LEDs, buttons, resistors, capacitor), plus a 170-point solderless breadboard.

The Arduino headers are R3 compatible, and provided in both the Arduino offset and "corrected" 0.1-inch pitch. This allows you to make your shield compatible with either or both the official and third-party Arduino systems.

Arduino Shield & SMT Prototyping Kit Resources

Additional kits are available that include other SMT-to-DIP adapters.
