Arduino Modkit MotoProto Shield: Control Sensors, Motors and LCD US$9.95

Arduino Modkit MotoProto Shield: Control Sensors, Motors and LCD

The Modkit MotoProto Shield for Arduino makes it easy to connect up to four sensors and control two DC motors as well as a 16×2 alphanumeric LCD. The sensor jacks accept 2.5mm cables and provide access to VCC, GND, and an analog input.

Sensors can be soldered to a cable with 2.5mm plug then you can begin plug-and-play prototyping with a wide assortment of sensors including line sensors, ultrasonic distance sensors, light sensors, photo interrupters, etc. There is also a large programmable button and a space for an I2C header to connect more advanced sensors such as accelerometers.

The motor driver circuit uses the L298 H-bridge and can drive up to 2A per channel. The board takes its power from the same Vin line as the Arduino board. It includes blue and yellow LEDs to indicate active direction, and all driver lines are diode-protected from back EMF.

The Modkit developers have created Modkit Micro, a drag-and-drop graphical programming environment for Arduino and Arduino-compatible boards. This environment, inspired by Scratch, makes it easier than ever to program your physical project. You can use it to create a program and upload the code to your board for free, but a membership fee is required if you want to save your project. The membership also provides project sharing.

The shield also can be programmed with the Arduino development environment.

The Modkit MotoProto Shield is well suited for general projects, prototyping, and educational robotics. Note that it does not come with headers installed. You will have to solder headers before you can install it on your Arduino.
