The Serial 7-seg 8-digit Display Board features a MAX7219 serial input/output common-cathode display driver used to create an interface between MCUs and 7-segment numeric LED displays via SPI. The chip includes a BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers and 8x8 static RAM for storing digits. The display driver is connected to common-cathode LED displays. The board features eight 7-segment digits arranged in a single row.
Connection to a microcontroller system is achieved via a 2×5-pin female IDC10 connector on the end of the attached ribbon cable. DIP switches on the board allow you configure which pins will be used for MOSI, SCK and CS lines. The user manual explains configurations that are compatible with the I/O port headers on specific development systems by mikroElektronika.
Use in your own design While this board was created originally for mikroElektronika's development systems, it's certainly possible to use in your own project. To do so, you may want to pick up IDC10 box headers that you can solder onto your PCB, or an EasyTEST board and jumper wires to wire it up however you need to.
Note: This board uses 5V power supply only.
