This module allows you to use an ATmega64-16AU AVR microcontroller with the PVK40 development board. It fits into the 40-pin DIP socket on the board (in place of the PIC16F877 that comes installed on the PVK40). The PVK40 was designed as a PICmicro development platform. As such, this AVR module is specially designed so that the DIP pinout matches the PIC pinout as closely as possible. It does not have the same pinout as any 40-pin DIP AVR microcontroller, so this module can not be used in place of a 40-pin MCU on an existing AVR development board. This module includes a 14.7456 MHz crystal on board to ensure short signal traces to the processor. There is a space on the board reserved for you to solder on a 32.768 kHz crystal if you require. ISP pins are provided to allow you to program the ATmega64. It is not a standard AVR programming header; please see the documentation for the pinout. The PRESTO programmer has separated signal wires ideal for programming this module. Remember: Do not use the programming header on the PVK40 when using this AVR module!
