MAX31855 K-Type Thermocouple-to-Digital Module w/ MCU, I/O, UEXT


K-Type thermocouple interface board with PIC16F1503, MAX31855, UEXT and 0.1" ICSP connector

The MOD-TC-MK2-31855 is a more advanced alternative to MOD-TC. It features a MAX31855KASA+ K-Thermocouple-to-Digital Converter, which has a wider measurement range of -200 to +1350 °C with 0.25 °C resolution. More significantly, this module has a PIC16F1503 microcontroller loaded with firmware that allows easier I2C interfacing to host boards via simple UEXT connection. The firmware can be changed by connecting a PIC programmer to the board's ICSP header. The MCU's power and I/O pins are brought out to through-hole pin pads for further interface possibilities.

K-Type Thermocouple Interface Board Features

  • Thermocouple connector
  • Maxim MAX31855 K-Type thermocouple-to-digital converter
  • Microchip PIC16F1503 microcontroller
  • ICSP connector, 6-pin 0.1" step (e.g. for PIC-KIT3)
  • Jumper for easy change of the default I2C address
  • UEXT connector (see below)
  • 5 Analog GPIOs, 2 Digital GPIOs, 3.3V and GND are lead to a row of nine pin holes for easier access
  • FR-4, 1.5 mm, red soldermask, white component print
  • PCB dimensions: 35.56 × 17.78 mm (1.4 × 0.7")

UEXT Connector

The UEXT connector provides a solderless way to connect this module to a system with a microcontroller. There are dozens of microcontroller systems and development boards that can connect to this module via UEXT using the supplied cable. Click on the architectures below for lists of compatible boards:
