MP3 Add-on mikroBUS Mo

MP3 Click is an accessory board in mikroBus form factor. It includes a VLSI VS1053 stereo MP3 decoder chip which can decode multiple formats (Ogg vorbis, MP3, MP1, MP2, MPEG4, WMA, FLAC, WAW, MIDI), and encode three different formats from a microphone in mono or stereo format (Ogg vorbis, IMA ADPCM, 16-bit PCM). The board uses industry-standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) for communication, and can only use 3.3V power supply. The board features stereo headphone and microphone audio connectors.

Use this board in one mikroBUS slot and the microSD Click in another to play music directly from a microSD card. You can implement microcontroller software which can ready MP3 files chunk by chunk and send each chunk for decoding over the same SPI communication lines, with different chip selects for each board.

The MP3 Click Board works on 3.3V only. If you need to add MP3 capability to a 5V system, try the SmartMP3 board. (Note that that board does not use mikroBUS; it connects to a mikroElektronika development board's IDC10 expansion port. You can use the Adapter Click to connect it to a mikroBUS socket.)

Click boards come with header pins that you must solder yourself. After that, they just plug directly into a mikroBUS socket. mikroBUS is a specially designed plug-and-play pinout standard. Newer (v7) development systems manufactured by mikroElektronika, which we carry, have mikroBUS sockets already built in.
