iMX233-OLinuXino-MINI-WiF
i.MX233 Single Board Linux Computer, 3x USB Host, Video, WiFi

This OLinuXino development board enables code development of applications running on the i.MX233 microcontroller manufactured by Freescale Semiconductor.

iMX233-OLinuXino-MINI-WiFi is suitable for embedded programming enthusiasts, Linux hobbyists, gadget fans, and also professionals, since its low cost makes it very good solution for application-orientated embedded systems. It allows embedded software development without fully needing to understand the hardware side. OLinuXino is an open-source, open-hardware project.

This board does not come with an operating system. It can boot from a microSD card. Pre-built images of ARCH and Debian Linux are available to download, or you can purchase a microSD card with the ARCH built already installed. You also can download the sources and build a distribution yourself. The user manual steps you through that task.

i.MX233 ARM9 Board Features

  • i.MX233 ARM926J processor at 454 MHz
  • 64 MB RAM
  • SD card connector for booting the Linux image (card not included)
  • Composite PAL/NTSC video output (RCA jack)
  • Three USB High-Speed Hosts
  • On-board Realtek RTL8188CU 150Mbit/s WiFi 802.11n module
  • Stereo Audio Input (3.5mm jack)
  • Stereo Headphones Audio Output (3.5mm jack)
  • Two Buttons
  • UEXT connector for connection of different peripherial modules (see below)
  • 40-pin GPIO for connection of other hardware
  • Board shaped to fit inside a Pactec JM42 enclosure
  • Power supply input 6-16V DC @ 1A max., or 3.7V battery power with limitations (see below)
  • PCB dimensions: 3.70 × 2.15 inches (94.0 × 54.6 mm)
  • Nominal dimensions: 3.70 × 2.65 inches (94.0 × 67.3 mm)

Debugging Options

If you don't have a separate monitor or display around, and you don't wish to swap cables constantly with your PC, there are three debug interfaces that provide a better option for your OLinuXino experience. Pins already are provided for the U_DEBUG interface, which requires only the USB-to-Serial Cable that you can select from the Optional Recommended Products list below. Pads are provided for you to install more traditional serial and parallel interfaces if you wish to use a Freescale-compatible JTAG dongle. See the user manual for details.

Power Supply Consideration

The 6V to 16V power from the power jack should have a maximum current of 1A. When using either of the power supplies selectable below, be sure to use a high enough voltage setting to drop the current low enough (7.5V setting on 120V mains; 9V setting on 220V mains). If you power the board with a typical 3.7V lithium-polymer or lithium-ion battery via the on-board JST connector, the USB hosts and WiFi will be disabled.

Add-on UEXT Modules Available

This board has a universal extension connector, UEXT, which allows you to add a peripheral module easily. The UEXT can provide I2C, RS232, SPI and power to the external device. Please see the UEXT Boards Category for a full list of modules that can plug into the UEXT port.

The iMX233-OLinuXino GitHub Page (see link below) contains example code for use with the following UEXT boards: MOD-IO2, MOD-LCD1x9, MOD-MAG, MOD-WII-UEXT, MOD-BT, MOD-GSM, MOD-IO, MOD-LCD3310, MOD-LCD6610 (a.k.a. MOD-NOKIA6610), MOD-RFID125-BOX, MOD-RS485-ISO, MOD-SMB380, MOD-TC-MK2, and MOD-ZIGBEE-UEXT.
