The im485P-M is an RS-485 interface module. It enables a 3.3V device (e.g., a microcontroller) to communicate with nodes on an RS-485 network. It has a DIP switch for enabling bias and terminating resistors, so it can be used as an RS-485 Master module (end node). It uses the 3.3V Sipex SP3078E RS-485/RS-422 transceiver chip, which has a 1/8 Load and Failsafe operation, enabling 256 nodes on a single bus.
This module makes the five pins (0V, B, A, 3.3V, Vx) available via a 5-pin, 3.5mm Terminal Block connector; a plug-in screw terminal block is included. The connections are marked on the PCB.
RS485 Interface Add-on Board Features DIP switch for enabling bias and terminating resistors ±15kV ESD protection for RS485 pins Advanced receiver-failsafe protection for open, shorted or terminated lines Up to 256 transceivers may share bus (1/8 Unit Load) Very low load for 8x greater fan-out Hot Swap glitch protection RE and DE Thermal shutdown protects against driver contention High-quality 3.5mm terminal block connector with plug-in screw terminal block Can be used in an iMod port (see below) Different pin header options available (see below) Module dimensions: 22.2 × 19.7 mm (0.875 × 0.775 inches) Operating Temperature: -40 to +85 °C
iMod Pin Configuration This is an iMod module with 0.7" pin column width, meaning it uses a standard pinout and configuration that allows it to be connected easily to any host board that has an iMod port. This includes the Modtronix SBC83I , SBC66UAL , and the various PT66E Prototyping Add-ons for other boards in the SBC66 series. The pin pitch is 0.1" so you can use the module also on any typical prototyping board or breadboard.

Pin Header Options Use the Headers option at the bottom of this page to select what type of pin headers you want included with the module and whether you want them included loose or pre-soldered. The default option is for common rectangular pins included loose (the photo above shows them soldered). All pin header types use 3mm long pins. The included strips will be for four pins on one side and two on the other, as seen in the photo. Below the header option selector, you will see checkboxes for adding extra or alternative header strips (e.g. in case you want to populate all five pin pads on each side). If you want to install the socket strips on your prototype so that you can plug in this module with Round Swiss pins, either break apart the 6-pin socket into 4+2 or change and Update the quantity of sockets to 2 during checkout. (While a 5-pin socket is not available as a separate item, you can break off one pin from the 6-pin sockets to make them into 5-pin sockets.)
As this module only actually uses six pins (4+2), you could get just one 6-pin strip and break it down, so those strips are listed below also.
