This USB-to-Parallel 8-bit FIFO interface module is based on the FT245BM chip made by FTDI. It enables very easy connection of your application to the PC via the USB port, without need of any deep knowledge of USB.
UMP2 is manufactured as a DIP28 device with standard pin distance of 2.54 mm (0.1"). It can be put into a standard or precision DIP socket or it can be directly soldered onto your application PCB. It can be driven from any microcontroller with sufficient number of pins (8 data and 4 handshaking).
The USB side has two signals, D+ and D-. The other side has the 8-bit bi-directional bus and four handshaking signals with the TTL level for data flow control. Transfer speeds up to 1 Megabyte per second are possible. An on-board 93LC56 serial EEPROM is used to store ID data (VID, PID, ID string).
Because this module does not have a USB connector built into it, you have total flexibility in your PCB layout and mechanical design. You can decide which USB connector your application will use, or even have it go straight to cable.
The controller chip supports "Bit-Bang" mode, which allows this module to be used for FPGA configuration or microcontroller firmware upgrades. It also supports 5V and 3V interface voltages.
Drivers are available for Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP, Mac OS8/OS9/OS X, and Linux.
