Tibbit #25: High-power 5V Supply, 24/48V Input, M2T


This is a Tibbit module part of the Tibbo Project System that allows you to build your own custom embedded device with only the components you need. Start with a Tibbo Project PCB, add Tibbits like this one, then place the built design into a Tibbo Project Box to complete your product.


Tibbit #25: High-power non-isolated power supply with 5V output, 8-60V input range, and shutdown control.

This Tibbit is capable of generating up to 1.5A of 5V power from an external input in the 8-60V range. Although this Tibbit is intended primarily for 24V and 48V applications, it is equally suited for 12V systems.

The following table shows the maximum ambient temperature at given output currents and input voltages:

Multiple power supply Tibbits can be used to increase available current or for power redundancy.

The module has a dedicated shutdown (-SDWN) line. Pull the line LOW to disable this Tibbit.

Combine this Tibbit with either #18 (power jack and two terminal blocks), #20 (nine terminal blocks) or #21 (four terminal blocks).

There is one green LED and one red LED. The green LED is connected to the +5V output and lights up when the voltage is present on this line. The red LED is connected to the SHUTDOWN line and lights up when the line is LOW (i.e. when the power supply is in shutdown).

M2T Tibbit Modules Overview

M2T Tibbits are taller double-width modules occupying two standard M sockets on a Tibbo Project PCB (i.e. TPP2 or TPP3). Their footprint is roughly 14 14 "squares" (one "square" is 2.54 2.54 mm). The M2T modules are 17.5mm high.

M2 modules have four groups of 6 pins arranged into two rows:

Pins 14-17 and 20-23 are control lines A-H.

Pins 2-5 and 8-11 are I/O lines.

Pins 12 and 24 are the GROUND and +5V power pins.

Pins 1 and 13 are for the optional +15V and -15V voltages needed only by few Tibbits. A special power supply Tibbit (#12) generates 15V from the main 5V power.

Pins 6, 7, 18 and 19 are unused and should be left unconnected.

Notice that each pin row has a "missing pin" in this middle. This separates a row into two groups of 6 pins.
