Waspmote Gateway 900 SMA 4.5 DBI
This device allows you to collect data which flows through a Waspmote sensor network into a PC or other device with a standard USB port. The Waspmote Gateway will act as a data bridge or access point between the sensor network and the receiving equipment. The receiving equipment will be responsible for storing and using the data received depending on the specific needs of the application.
The receiving equipment can be a PC with Linux, Windows or Mac OS, or any device compatible with standard USB connectivity. The gateway offers a USB A plug connector, so the receiving device must have a USB A receptacle.
Once the gateway has been installed correctly, a new communication serial port connecting directly to the XBee module's UART appears in the receiving equipment. This will allow the XBee to communicate directly with the device, being able to both receive data packets from the sensor network as well as modify and/or consult the XBee's configuration parameters.
Another important function worth pointing out is the possibility of updating or changing the XBee module's firmware.
The Waspmote Gateway ships with the XBee module and antenna as shown. This version includes the XBP09-DPSIT-156 915MHz XBee PRO module with RP-SMA connector. Note: This module is certified for use in North America and Australia only. It may not be used in Europe or Japan. Other areas, check local regulations.

Waspmote Gateway Features
LEDs Four indicator LEDs are included on the Gateway:
The I/O5 LED connected to the XBee's I/O pin 5 can be configured either as the XBee's digital output or as the XBee's indicator of association to the sensor network.
- PWR — indicates that the board is powered through the USB port
- RX — indicates that the board is receiving data from the USB port
- TX — indicates that the board is sending data to the USB port
- I/O5 — configurable LED (see below)
Buttons Four buttons are included on the Gateway:
All the buttons connect each one of its corresponding data lines with GND when pressed. None of these has pull-up resistance, so it may be necessary to activate any of the XBee's internal pull-up resistances depending on the required use.
- RST — allows the XBee module to be reset
- I/O-0 — connected to the XBee's I/O pin 0
- I/O-1 — connected to the XBee's I/O pin 1
- RTS-6 — connected to the XBee's I/O pin 6
Waspmote Overview Waspmote is an open-source wireless sensor platform specially focused on the implementation of low-consumption modes which allows the sensor nodes ("motes") to be completely autonomous, i.e. battery powered. The life span of Waspmote sensor nodes may range from 1 to 5 years depending on the duty cycle and the radio used. The system is programmed through a custom Arduino-based IDE.
Waspmote is based on a modular architecture. The idea is to integrate only the modules needed in each device, optimizing costs. For this reason, all the modules (radios, sensor boards, etc.) plug into Waspmote through sockets. Every combination of Waspmote wireless hardware has FCC, CE and IC radio certifications, allowing you to deploy your device with minimal fuss.
