The breakout board embeds the very capable u-blox PAM-7Q GPS device in a project-friendly module. The PAM-7Q GPS device gives your project the ability to understand its position anywhere on Earth, as long as it has a clear view of the sky. It does this by using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) such as GPS. Its default settings provide all the capabilities you would expect from a GPS receiver: location fix, speed, heading, altitude measurements, and atomic date time. Advanced users can reconfigure these settings for specific needs.

The user-friendly mounting holes and 5-pin header make it easy to integrate this module into solderless breadboard projects, and the on-board voltage regulator and buffer circuitry mean it's ready for use with both 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers.

PAM-7Q Breakout Board Features

  • 0.1" pin spacing; usable in solder-free breadboard projects
  • Satellite-lock LED shows when the module is on and receiving data
  • On-board supercapacitor preserves data for up to 30 minutes after power is disconnected
  • NMEA 0183 v2.3 standard GPS protocol
  • 56 separate tracking channels
  • Up to 10Hz max navigation update rate
  • Horizontal position accuracy typically under 2 meters (2.5m max if conditions are highly unfavorable)
  • Configurable time-pulse signal (0.25Hz to 1kHz)
  • 50km (~31 miles) maximum altitude (upper stratosphere)
  • Power requirements: 3.3V to 5V; 55mA max (typically 35mA)
  • Communication: TTL asynchronous serial (UART) by default; I2C pins can be installed (see user manual for I2C usage notes)
  • Dimensions: 1.0 1.5 0.5 inches (25.4 38.1 12.7 mm)
  • Operating Temperature: -40 to +185 F (-40 to +85 C)
