This is an economical bundle of items to get you started using a programmable 1.38-inch round TFT LCD from 4D Systems. It includes the display itself (which comes with a header strip and 5-way jumper cable for connection to another device or breadboard), a 2GB SPI-compatible microSD card, and a mini-USB programming adapter. All you'll need to provide is a mini-USB cable to connect the adapter to your PC, then you can begin working with the intelligent display module.

This Starter Kit ensures that if you want to take full advantage of the 4D Systems display solution and try out each of the four 4D Workshop4 Environments supported by the uLCD-220RD, and to upgrade PmmC/firmware, you can.
How the kit items are used in 4D Workshop4 Environments The Designer environment can utilize every feature of the display. You can write 4DGL code in its natural form to program into the display module. The programming adapter is used to download compiled 4DGL code and PmmC/Firmware updates. The microSD card may be used for displaying images/video/sound or for datalogging.
The ViSi environment enables drag-and-drop placement of objects to assist with 4DGL code generation, and allows you to visualize how the display will work. It is the same as Designer in terms of feature utilization, but is image based, so it requires the microSD card along with the programming adapter.
The ViSi-Genie environment doesn't require any 4DGL coding at all; it is done automatically for you. Simply lay out the display with the objects you want (similar to ViSi), set the events to drive them, and let the code be written for you. Arduino and Raspberry Pi libraries are available for this environment. Being also image based, it too requires the microSD card and programming adapter.
In the default Serial environment, the display is a slave serial module, allowing you to control it from any host microcontroller or device with a serial port. Serial libraries are available for C, Pascal, PicAxe and Arduino. The microSD card can be used for such things as storage of multimedia files and datalogging, and the programming adapter can be used for PmmC/Firmware updates or for changing to one of the other environments.
