Waspmote 4-20 mA (Current Loop) Sensor Board

This board plugs into a Waspmote main board, allowing you to create a wireless interface for sensors designed to utilize the 4-20mA Current Loop transmission standard. Sensors are not included! Your sensors can connect via Phoenix PTSM push-in terminals.

The board has input channels which allow you to convert signals that come from third-party sensors or devices with the 4-20 mA industrial standard. The 4-20 mA Board works with type 2, 3 and 4 current transmitters. Each channel can be configured for working with these types of connections. If a channel's jumper is removed, the receptor (this 4-20 Board) will be configured as float (type 4 connection).

The consumption of the 4-20 mA Board depends on several factors. When your Waspmote's battery is fully charged, the consumption of the board is lower due to the DC-DC converter. This DC-DC converter rises the voltage from the battery voltage level to 12V, so if the battery level decreases, the energy needed to maintain the 12V level is higher. The nominal consumption of the board is 8mA without sensors. When the 4-20 mA Board is used to power sensors, the consumption will increase.

The majority of 4-20 mA sensors work in the 9-24V range. Before connecting a sensor to the 4-20 mA Board, you must be sure that 12V is within your sensor's power supply range. If you are going to use all channels, the consumption of the board will increase. Note: The 4-20 mA Board is not designed to power industrial devices such as PLCs and thermostats, as its maximum current output is only about 180mA.
