Waspmote Gases Sensor Board
The Waspmote Gases 2.0 board has been designed to monitor environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and 14 different types of gases. It allows the inclusion of seven gases sensors at the same time. The power of the sensors is regulated through a system of solid-state switches. The amplification of the output signal from each sensor is done through a non-inverting amplification stage of a maximum gain of 101 controlled by a digital potentiometer configurable through the I2C bus.
This board plugs into a Waspmote main board. Sensors are not included! See a list of sensors below. Each available sensor can plug into the Gases Sensors Board two different ways: directly via on-board sockets, or remotely via Phoenix push-in terminals (i.e. so you can build a probe cable to connect to the board).
Gases which can be monitored (with the appropriate sensors installed) are:
In addition, the board has sockets for temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure sensors.
- Carbon Monoxide — CO
- Carbon Dioxide — CO2
- Molecular Oxygen — O2
- Methane — CH4
- Molecular Hydrogen — H2
- Ammonia — NH3
- Isobutane — C4H10
- Ethanol — CH3CH2OH
- Toluene — C6H5CH3
- Hydrogen Sulfide — H2S
- Nitrogen Dioxide — NO2
- Ozone — O3
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
The lower picture shows the Gases Board with several sensors installed, for illustration only. All sensors are sold separately. See the Optional Recommended Products list at the bottom of this page.
Application Ideas You can combine several sensors together to make a single device for specialized applications, such as:
- Air pollution — use CO, CO2, NO2 and O3 sensors
- Emissions from farms/hatcheries — use CH4, H2S and NH3 sensors
- Gases from chemical/industrial processes — use C4H10, H2 and VOC sensors
Most sensors will require calibration prior to use.
The board measures 73.5 × 51 × 1.3 mm so it fits nicely on your Waspmote. The operating temperature range is -20 to +65 °C (but the range of individual sensors varies).
