Arduino Shield Kit with 1.27mm 8/18/28-pin SOIC-to-DIP Adapters US$18.00

Arduino Shield Kit with 1.27mm 8/18/28-pin SOIC-to-DIP Adapters

1.27mm Pitch 8/18/28-pin SOIC-to-DIP Adapters and Arduino Shield Kit

This kit allows you to design and build an Arduino shield that will use surface-mount chips in 1.27mm-pitch SO8, SO18 and/or SO28 packages — without needing any expert soldering skills.

The kit is a combination of the 1.27mm Pitch 8/18/28-pin SOIC-to-DIP Adapter PCBs and the Arduino Shield Prototyping Kit.

SOIC-to-DIP Adapter Features

This is a strip of three SOIC-to-DIP adapters with a twist. These have the patented Schmartboard|ez technology to make soldering surface-mount devices easy. Your SMT part will sit in grooves that hold it in place and already have solder in them. So all you need to do is put a chip in the grooves, apply flux, and use a small enough soldering tip.

The adapters ship as a single PCB that can be snapped apart easily, creating three individual boards:

  • One for 8-pin SOIC at 1.27mm pitch
  • One for 18-pin SOIC at 1.27mm pitch
  • One for 28-pin SOIC at 1.27mm pitch

A strip of 40 male pin headers is included. This strip also can be snapped apart so that you can create the individual segments needed when these boards have been separated. This strip does not provide enough pins for all three boards (or even for the two larger boards). You can order additional pin headers using the option box at the bottom of this page.

Arduino Shield Prototyping Board Features

This prototyping board features an offset through-hole pattern that provides you with greater flexibility than standard through-hole boards. This kit includes all the basic components most Arduino shields need (stackable headers, LEDs, buttons, resistors, capacitor), plus a 170-point solderless breadboard.

The Arduino headers are R3 compatible, and provided in both the Arduino offset and "corrected" 0.1-inch pitch. This allows you to make your shield compatible with either or both the official and third-party Arduino systems.

Additional kits are available that include other SMT-to-DIP adapters.
