A13 Android 4.0 Board, 3x USB-Host, VGA, Audio, WiFi, UEXT


A13-OLinuXino-WIFI is a low-cost single-board Android/Linux computer in a very compact nano-ITX form. It uses the Allwinner Technology A13 ARM Cortex-A8 processor in eLQFP176 package, and features an RTL8188CU 802.11n WiFi module.

A13-OLinuXino is suitable for embedded programming enthusiasts, Linux and Android gadget fans and also professionals since its low cost makes it a good solution for application-orientated embedded systems. It allows embedded software development without fully needing to understand the hardware side.

The board comes with Android 4.0 ready to use, installed in its NAND Flash. A Linux port is available; see below.

In addition, the official Debian 8.0 Jessie release now has a Device Tree Blob specific to this board. However, it is designed to run from a microSD card; running it from NAND Flash is not supported.

A13 Android 4.0 Board Features

  • LCD signals available on connector so you can use an LCD if you disable VGA/HDMI

  • 5 keys on board for Android navigation
  • UEXT connector for connecting additional modules (see below)
  • GPIO connector with 68/74 pins and these signals:
      17 for adding NAND Flash
      22 for connecting LCD
      20+4 including 8 GPIOs which can be input, output, or interrupt sources
      3x I2C
      2x UARTs
      SDIO2 for connecting SD cards and modules
      5 system pins: +5V, +3.3V, GND, RESET, NMI

Add-on UEXT Modules Available

This board has a universal extension connector, UEXT, which allows you to add a peripheral module easily. The UEXT can provide I2C, RS232, SPI and power to the external device. Please see the UEXT Boards Category for a full list of modules that can plug into the UEXT port.

The A13-OLinuXino GitHub Page (see link below) contains example code for use with the following UEXT boards: MOD-BT, MOD-GSM, MOD-IO, MOD-LCD1x9, MOD-MAG, MOD-RFID125-BOX, MOD-RGB, MOD-RS485-ISO, MOD-TC-MK2, and MOD-ZIGBEE-UEXT.

Powering the Board

There are three ways to power the A13-OLinuXino-WIFI. There is a barrel connector which you can use with one of the power supplies listed in the options below (set it to 6.5V for maximum current). There also is a JST connector for connecting any of these Lithium-Polymer Batteries (OK in most cases; may not be enough to run all three USB ports and an LCD simultaneously, but with VGA should be fine). A third option is to power it via USB OTG (the mini-USB connector), though that would limit the use of peripherals, e.g. not enough to power an LCD.

You must shut down the OS properly before disconnecting the power supply, otherwise the NAND image can become corrupted. Simply issue $ sync followed by $ reboot -p and wait for it to finish before disconnecting the power. Note that the first time the board is turned on, it will take several minutes to boot up, as Android needs to create a lot of files and buffers when run for very first time.

Optional LCD Panels

If, instead of a VGA monitor, you want to use a small LCD panel, you can add one using the checkboxes below. Note however that you will need the 2x20 IDC ribbon cable as well to connect the LCD, and will need to run the change_display_a13.sh script file in the /root directory. Note that the Android images support resolutions of only 480272, 800480 and 800600.
