Pulsoximeter Module with MSP430FG439, UEXT


MOD-PULSE is an instrument for monitoring the blood oxygenation of a human. It can display the levels of blood oxygenation and heart rate on its LCD. To perform this function, MOD-PULSE requires an external sensor to be connected to it via its DB9F PROBE connector. No sensor is included. MOD-PULSE can be controlled from a variety of development boards via its UEXT connector.

Pulsoximeter Module Features

  • MCU: Texas Instruments MSP430FG439
  • 14-pin MSP430 JTAG connector
  • UEXT connector (see below)
  • Alphanumeric segment LCD
  • Two user buttons
  • Two status LEDs
  • Power supply switch
  • +3V coin-cell lithium battery connector (battery not included)
  • DB9 Female connector for sensor probe (probe not included)
  • System clock crystal
  • Extension pin holes for each of the microcontroller's ports
  • FR-4, 1.5 mm, red soldermask, component print
  • Dimensions: 76.2 71.12 mm (3.0 2.8")

Powering the MOD-PULSE

A switch on the board allows you to select whether the board will be powered from a 3V coin-cell battery or from an external system via the UEXT connector. When re-programming the MOD-PULSE, you can move a jumper from P_OUT to P_IN and the board will be powered via JTAG.

UEXT Connector

The UEXT connector provides a solderless way to connect this pulsoximeter module to another microcontroller system. There are dozens of microcontroller systems and development boards that can connect to this module via UEXT using the supplied cable. Click on the architectures below for lists of compatible boards:
