This display combines a classic 4-digit 7-segment display and an ATmega328 microcontroller, allowing you to control every segment individually using only a few serial lines.
The Serial 7-Segment Display can be controlled in any of three ways: Serial TTL communication (1 pin), I2C (2 pins), or SPI (3 pins). You can even program it for standlone operation; the ATmega328 comes with the Arduino bootloader. There is a programming header on the board for that purpose, and a hardware profile for the Arduino IDE is available for download.
This version of the display has red LEDs. It's also available with green, yellow or white LEDs.
The power and I2C pins are along the sides of the PCB, which makes it easy to string multiple displays together for more digits. There are four mounting holes also.
