This board features two 40-pin DIP sockets for an AVR microcontroller, header pins for the MCU port pins, and a prototyping area so you can design your own circuit. It also features a USB port connected to an FT232R USB-to-UART chip so you can connect the board to a PC via USB to have access to the RS232 function of the microcontroller. Note that a microcontroller is not included. You can add one to your order using the options below. The board has two sockets because there are two different pinouts used by 40-pin AVRs. Only one chip should be inserted at a time. Be sure you install your microcontroller in the correct socket! To program your AVR microcontroller, an Atmel standard 10-pin ISP header is provided (note: not JTAG). You will need an external AVR in-system programmer. Power can be supplied to the board via a 2-pole screw terminal — 8V to 16V AC/DC. AVR-Ready1 Board User Manual and Schematic
