The BIGAVR6 development system is a full-featured development board for Atmel AVR microcontrollers. It is designed to allow students and engineers to test and explore the capabilities of AVR microcontrollers. It also provides access to the port pins so you can add external circuits and peripherals. An ATmega128 microcontroller is included on a plug-in module. Additional CPU modules can be purchased separately.

The DIMM CPU card has pads providing direct access to the AVR microcontroller pins.

Every component of the board is identified with a silkscreen on both the top and bottom of the board. These marks describe connections to the microcontroller, operation modes, and additional information.

Note: The 162 alphanumeric LCD, the graphical LCD and the SD card displayed in the pictures are not included.

What's On Board
Dual RS232 communication with a PC or a microcontroller is performed via DB9 connectors. System can be configured by means of DIP switches. Each DIP switch configures one part of the system. Digital thermometer DS1820 can measure temperature from -55C to 125C. Socket is provided. DS1820 not included.
System supports 64- and 100-pin TQFP MCU Cards in DIMM-168P form. It comes with an ATmega128. Potentiometer is used for testing multiple A/D conversions. Inputs can be configured via jumpers. USB or external power supply source is selected by moving a jumper. Power supply switch turns the system on/off.
Serial EEPROM 24AA01 can store up to 1Kbit of data and uses I2C communication. All pins are connected to the IDC10 connectors for further expansion. 86 LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are used to indicate the logic state of all MCU pins.
On-board jumpers are used for pull-up or pull down port configuration. They are available for all pins. 86 push buttons are used to excite microcontroller digital inputs. These buttons are connected to the microcontroller pins. DIP switch is used to separate port pins from pull-up or pull down resistors.
Very fast, on-board USB 2.0 programmer. There is no need for connecting an external programmer. LCD can be connected to the board via the on-board connector that is leads to MCU pins. LCD not included. LCD Contrast Potentiometer is used for adjusting LCD Contrast.
Touch Screen can be connected to the board via the Touch Screen connector. There is also a Touch Screen controller. Touch Screen not included. External power supply can be 7-23V AC or 9-32V DC. On-board jumper is used for selecting external power supply. USB connector with LED indication for microcontrollers with USB facilities.
A Graphic LCD 12864 can be connected to the board via the on-board connector that is linked to MCU pins. GLCD not included. All pins are marked on the front and back of the board. These marks provide basic information on the pins. Voltage level to be applied when a button is pressed (GND or +5V) is selected via the on-board jumper.
CAN module is used for communication with other microcontrollers. Reset circuit is used to reset the microcontroller. It is connected to the MCLR pin of the microcontroller. GLCD Contrast Potentiometer is used for adjusting GLCD Contrast.
Real-Time Clock (RTC) DS1307 with a battery supply is used to keep track of the current time. On-board ISP connector can be used for programming with an external programmer. JTAG port can be used for in-circuit debugging and firmware programming with an external debugger.
MMC/SD card slot enables you to use MMC/SD memory cards easily. Card not included. Voltage reference used for A/D converter can be VCC (5V) or 4.096V. On-board LCD and GLCD holders ensure proper display placement.

The BIGAVR6 development system supports a wide range of AVR MCUs. Newly released AVR microcontrollers will be supported by a new version of AVRFlash software that is updated regularly. Here is a list of microcontrollers supported by the BIGAVR6 development system:

You can purchase Additional CPU DIMM Modules with ATmega128. You also can purchase Unpopulated CPU DIMM Modules if you want to use some other AVR that you can solder by yourself (inquire directly to check availability).

On-board USB 2.0 programmer

The board features a built-in USB in-circuit programmer. This is not a bootloader system, but an actual AVR ISP built into the board. No additional power adapter is needed. The board also has both a 6-pin ISP port and a 10-pin JTAG port for optional external programmers/debuggers.

Examples provided with this development system will show you how to connect AVR microcontrollers to external peripheral components or devices and how to develop your prototype devices easily. Each example contains a detailed description of the relevant program including comments. All these examples can be downloaded from this page as well.

This product is shipped with fully functional demo versions of mikroC PRO for AVR, mikroBasic PRO for AVR and mikroPascal PRO for AVR compilers. All demo versions include a hex output limited to 2k of program words. These compilers come with examples for easy prototype development.
