The R/2R ladder DAC is an 8-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter. An 8-bit value from the microcontroller port will be converted into an equivalent analog voltage by means of the R/2R resistor network. The R/2R ladder DAC makes use of only two resistor values, but it requires 2N resistors to implement the N-bit conversion. The resistor values are in the ratio of 1:2. The Rail-to-Rail DAC board output is provided with the MCP6284 operational amplifier used as a buffer in order to drive loads with current consumption of up to 20mA.
The board has a female IDC10 connector to plug it into your host system (3.3V or 5V). Several development systems from mikroElektronika have matching IDC10 microcontroller port headers. Connection to the analog target is established via a 2-pole screw terminal.
Use in your own design While this board was created originally for mikroElektronika's development systems, it's certainly possible to use in your own project. To do so, you may want to pick up IDC10 box headers that you can solder onto your PCB, or an EasyTEST board and jumper wires to wire it up however you need to.
