  • MAX7219 serial interface LED display driver
  • Industry standard SPI communication

  • Each digit is in a socket so you can replace with different colors if desired
  • Pads for pass-through to four additional digits
  • The Serial 7-seg Display Board features a MAX7219 serial input/output common-cathode display driver used to create an interface between MCUs and 7-segment numeric LED displays via SPI. The chip includes a BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers and 8x8 static RAM for storing digits. The display driver is connected to common-cathode LED displays. The board features four 7-segment digits arranged in a single row.

    Connection to a microcontroller system is achieved via a 25-pin female connector on the attached IDC10 ribbon cable. DIP switches on the board allow you configure which pins will be used for MOSI, SCK and CS lines. This allows you to make it compatible with the I/O port headers on specific development systems by mikroElektronika.

    Use in your own design

    While this board was created originally for mikroElektronika's development systems, it's certainly possible to use in your own project. To do so, you may want to pick up IDC10 box headers that you can solder onto your PCB, or an EasyTEST board and jumper wires to wire it up however you need to.

    Note: This board uses 5V power supply only.
