The RTC PROTO Board enables you to use a real-time-clock and calendar in your applications. It features a PCF8583 real-time clock chip that keeps track of the current time even when the microcontroller is turned off. The real-time clock is driven by a coin-cell battery which is included. The board can be connected to standard prototyping boards easily via five pin pads with standard 0.1" spacing. The pads come unpopulated so you can decide how to connect the board to your system. Male header pins are provided that you can solder.
This board is ideal for applications which require real-time clocks, calendars and programmed alarms. It enables your microcontroller to have access to the real time and date, including corrections for leap year. The PCF8583P chip has an alarm function. It is used to generate an interrupt. The board communicates with your host microcontroller via serial I2C interface.
