The BlueSMiRF Gold works as a serial (RX/TX) pipe. These boards are a great wireless replacement for serial cables. Any serial stream from 1200 to 115200 bps can be passed seamlessly from your computer to your target.
This version of the BlueSMiRF uses the RN-41 Bluetooth modem. These modems come configured to use 115200 baud by default. Being Class 1 Bluetooth, they have a much longer range (up to 350 feet), but also consume more power than Class 2 devices.
If power saving is more important than range, see the Class 1 BlueSMiRF Silver.
This BlueSMiRF Gold remote unit can be powered from 3.3V up to 6V for easy battery attachment. All signal pins on the remote unit are 3V-6V tolerant. No level shifting is required. Do not attach this device directly to a serial port; you will need an RS232-to-TTL converter circuit if you want to attach this to a computer's DB9 RS232 port.
The unit comes without a connector. You can solder straight headers onto the through-hole pads. We also have right-angle headers available in packs.
The hardware reset pin of the RN-41 module (PIO4) is broken out on the bottom side of the board. Should you need to reset the BlueSMiRF, pull this pin High upon power-up, then toggle it three times.
