Low-cost PIC programmer with USB port This PIC Programmer is both an out-of-circuit and in-circuit programmer for all Microchip PIC devices that are supported by Microchip's own free MPLAB software, with the exception of PIC17xxx. It performs blank check, read, program, and verify. Utilizing Microchip's free MPLAB software for programming assures that new PIC devices are supported as soon as a new MPLAB version is released. The USB driver for this programmer will install a virtual serial (COM) port on your PC. The MPLAB software will think it is talking to Microchip's serial-port PICSTART Plus programmer. PIC-MCP-USB is compatible with MPLAB v7.52 and later. This programmer uses an FT232BM chip to handle the USB virtual COM port. The USB driver is not shipped with this programmer; download the drivers for Windows 2000 and XP. Firmware upgrading is accomplished through the USB port with a simple update program run on your PC. Just download the firmware update (version 1.30), connect the PIC-MCP-USB to your USB port and wait for the Virtual COM port to be set up, then run the PIC-MCP-upgrade.exe update application and direct it to the Virtual COM port. When it reports a successful upgrade, unplug the PIC-MCP-USB, wait for Windows to unload the Virtual COM port, then plug it back in. In standalone mode, a gold-plated ZIF socket is used to program 8-, 18-, 28- and 40-pin PICs in DIP form. By setting a jumper, the PIC-MCP-USB becomes an in-circuit programmer using a 0.1"-spaced six-pin ICSP connector. The PIC-MCP-USB measures 100 x 80 mm (3.9 x 3.15"). It comes fully assembled and tested. It does not ship with any documentation or software. Ships from: USA Leadtime: In stock
