PICmicro Systems Solution Educational Kit US$395.00

LK8922A
PICmicro Systems Solution Educational Kit

  • A complete learning solution
  • Compatible with free demo version of Flowcode
  • Includes carriers, baseboard and power supply
  • Uses ANSI (American) or DIN (European) circuit symbols (choose via options below)
  • This kit allows students to investigate circuits and systems based on the popular PIC microcontroller. The solution focuses on system construction with a pre-programmed PIC carrier that includes eight programs selectable by hardware switches. The work can be extended to include programming of PIC microcontrollers using flowcharts with the free Flowcode demo software. The kit includes component carriers, base board, power supply, and storage trays.

Topics that can be learned with this kit include Switch inputs, Sensors and sensor circuits, Digital comparators, Driving transducers, Output transducers, DC motor speed control, and Open/closed loop control.

    PIC Microcontroller Carrier

The Locktronics microcontroller allows students to undertake a wide range of studies in technology and modern applied science. The unit is based on a PIC microcontroller and is compatible with the Flowcode graphical programming software. Four selector switches on the microcontroller carrier allow students to choose one of eight programs built into the unit. Students then assemble the corresponding Locktronics circuit and carry out the appropriate experiment. The eight projects are: Logic control with an AND circuit, Logic control with an NAND circuit, Energy/current monitor, Thermistor control with a comparator, Motor speed control, Timer and Waveform generator.

Students can progress further in the subject by using the Flowcode software to design a program, simulate the program's operation, and then download it to the microcontroller via USB. The unit has four I/O connections which can be programmed to be either inputs or outputs.

    Locktronics Overview

Locktronics kits are designed to make the construction of electronic circuits as simple as copying a circuit diagram into an exercise book. No soldering or tools are necessary. The plastic component carriers (such as those shown to the right) each support either a discrete electronic component or a functionally distinct circuit building block. Connections between components are then made by simply slotting the carriers between the pillars of a baseboard. As there are only two sizes of component carrier, it is very easy to exchange one carrier for another in order to demonstrate the the effect on the circuit.

The electronic components are usually visible on the underside of the carrier (unless this would compromise safety or circuit behavior), so students also learn the appearance of many common electronic components. Where it is necessary to interact with a circuit element (for example, light sensors), the component will be mounted above the carrier, but there will still be a circuit symbol printed alongside it.

The top of every carrier is printed with the standard circuit symbol for the part(s) that it carries, so constructing a circuit simultaneously constructs that circuit's schematic, and vice versa. The standard carriers follow the DIN (European) standard for schematic symbols, but carriers with ANSI (USA) symbols are also available should they be required. Component values are marked clearly using the relevant SI units.

Some complex modules may require more connections than are available on a large carrier. In this case additional connections are made using 2mm sockets. With a few exceptions, it will be connections to the power source that will be made this way, in order to retain the clarity of the circuit schematic.
