Port Expander Board, MCP23S17, 16 GPIO from SPI, IDC10 Headers


  • 16-bit I/O expander with SPI clock speeds up to 10 MHz
  • 16 GPIO pins divided into two 8-bit ports
  • Selectable hardware address using jumpers
  • For 5V systems
  • The Port Expander Board includes an MCP23S17 I/O expander with SPI clock speeds up to 10 MHz for higher-throughput applications. Three Hardware Address Selection jumpers allow you to configure the board's address and connect up to eight devices on the bus. The controller also supports interrupt-on-change. This board is convenient for adding 16 GPIO pins to your device.

    The board connects to a host microcontroller system through any one of three 25-pin headers on the left side of the board, each with a different pinout which makes the board plug-in compatible with various development systems by mikroElektronika using the supplied IDC10 cable. The expanded ports are available via two 25-pin headers on the right side of the board.

    Example Usage

    The following image shows the Port Expander Board being used to connect two peripheral modules to a single I/O port header on a development system.

    Note: This board is designed for 5V systems only.
