Arduino Ethernet Board with ATmega328, PoE Connector, microSD

The Arduino Ethernet (A000068) is a microcontroller board with an ATmega328. It has 14 digital input/output pins, 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, an RJ45 connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a Reset button.

Note: Pins 10, 11, 12 and 13 are reserved for interfacing with the Ethernet module and should not be used otherwise. This reduces the number of available pins to 9, with 4 available as PWM outputs.

An optional Power-over-Ethernet module can be added to the board as well.

The Arduino Ethernet differs from other boards in that it does not have an on-board USB-to-serial driver chip, but has a Wiznet Ethernet interface. This is the same interface found on the original Ethernet Shield.

An on-board microSD card reader, which can be used to store files for serving over the network, is accessible through the Arduino SD Library. Pin 10 is reserved for the Wiznet interface; SS for the SD card is on Pin 4.

The 6-pin serial programming header is compatible with this USB-Serial adapter and also with the FTDI USB cable. It features support for automatic reset, allowing sketches to be uploaded without pressing the reset button on the board. When plugged into a USB-to-Serial adapter, the Arduino Ethernet is powered from the adapter.

  • W5100 TCP/IP Embedded Ethernet Controller
  • Power-over-Ethernet ready Magnetic Jack
  • microSD card slot with active voltage translators

The board can be powered via an external power supply, an optional Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) module, or by using an FTDI cable/USB Serial connector.

External power can come either from an AC-to-DC adapter (wall-wart) or battery. The adapter can be connected by plugging a 2.1mm center-positive plug into the board's power jack. Leads from a battery can be inserted in the Gnd and Vin pin headers of the POWER connector.

The board can operate on an external supply of 6V to 20V. If supplied with less than 7V, however, the 5V pin may supply less than five volts and the board may be unstable. If using more than 12V, the voltage regulator may overheat and damage the board. The recommended range is 7V to 12V.

Important Arduino ADK Installation Note for Older IDE Versions

To use this board on Arduino 0022 or earlier, or Arduino 1.0 Beta, you will need to change the boards.txt file in your Arduino directory, found in Arduino-00xx hardware arduino. If you are using Arduino 0023 or the release version of Arduino 1.0 or later, then you don't need to change anything.

Note about options below

If you choose the GSM/GPRS Module for Arduino add-on board below, you also will need a compatible antenna which is not included.
