AT91SAM9G25 Embedded Linux Module, 256MB, microSD, micro-USB


Arietta G25 is a small and low-cost multi-chip module that integrates a 400MHz Atmel AT91SAM9G25 ARM9 CPU, 256MB of DDR2 RAM, a microSD card slot, a USB Device port, space for adding a WiFi module, and a 220-pin extension header with 2.54mm pitch.

This makes a great embedded Linux module for your next project. A bootable Debian Linux build for this module is available for download which you can install on a microSD card.

You also can get a 128MB version of the Arietta.

ARM9 Embedded Linux Module Features

  • CPU: Atmel AT91SAM9G25 SoC (ARM9 @ 400MHz)
  • Memory: 256 MBytes DDR2 RAM
  • Power supply: 5V DC via microUSB or 3.3V DC using the PCB pads
  • Line levels: TTL 3.3V (not 5V tolerant)
  • Operating temperature range: 0 to +70 C
  • Dimensions: 53 25 mm
  • PCB layers: 8
  • RoHS and REACH compliant; low EMI

Exposed signals and external devices

  • Pads for placing a 6-pin male strip to connect a Debug Port Interface module
  • Pads for installing an IEE802.11b/g/n WiFi module WIFI-2-IA or WIFI-2 (the picture to the right shows a WIFI-2 installed for illustration only)
  • Push-push type holder for a microSD card (up to 64GB) from which you could boot and run Linux
  • micro-USB connector to plug the Arietta to your PC for access to the internal Linux with an emulated LAN port over USB
  • User-configurable LED on board
  • User-configurable pushbutton on board
  • Pads for installation of a 220-pin connector, 100 mils pitch, which provides:
    1 Full-Speed USB Host
    1 High-Speed Host/Device (same port lines used for the microUSB port)
    1 Hi-Speed Host (same lines used for the WiFi adapter)
    UART lines: 3 ports
    I2C bus lines: 2 buses
    SPI bus lines: 1 bus with up to 3 chip select (5 to 50 MHz)
    PWM lines: 4 lines
    A/D converters lines: 4 channels @ 10 bit
    SSC/I2S interface for audio SoC
Note: There is no video or TFT output, but the SPI bus can be used for a small TFT display, and the I2C bus for a small alphanumeric LCD. There is no direct LAN interface, but the USB ports can be used with a USB-to-LAN adapter. Also, please note that not all the signals are available at the same time; some lines are muxed together. Default muxing configuration depends on the at91-arietta.dtb file stored on the first microSD partition which is used at startup by the Linux kernel.

Powering the Arietta G25

The Arietta G25 module can be powered by 5V or by 3.3V.

5V Power Supply


Use the micro-USB port or header pins J4.1 (5V DC in) and J4.9 (GND). Never use both power inputs at the same time!

3.3V Power Supply


Use header pins J4.5 (3.3V DC in) and J4.9 (GND). Note that you cannot use the micro-USB connector anymore. To maintain the USB client function on the micro-USB, you must remove resistor R36. Then the micro-USB will not power Arietta, but the USB lines to the PC will work as usual.
