USB plug-in dongle with nRF24L01 and AT91SAM7S64

This USB dongle board has an Atmel AT91SAM7S64 ARM7TDMI-S microcontroller and a Nordic nRF24L01 2.4GHz RF transceiver. It allows easy communication between a PC and other boards that have nRF24L01 chips on them, e.g. MOD-NRF24LR, STM32-103STK, etc.

  • Nordic nRF24L01
  • On-board voltage regulator 3.3V with up to 800mA current
  • Power supply LED
  • Power supply filtering capacitor
  • 18.432 MHz crystal
  • PCB: FR-4, 1.5 mm (0.062"), soldermask, silkscreen component print
  • Dimensions: 50 25 mm (2 1")

Programming the microcontroller

The AT91SAM7S64 microcontroller can be re-programmed via USB using Atmel's SAM-BA software. The board also has JTAG signals terminated at through-hole pads, but not in a standard format, so you will have to make an adapter if you want to use an external programmer.

The board comes with Virtual COM Port software pre-loaded for Node A. The demo software below, as well as projects for IAR, has ready-made binaries you can load using SAM-BA to change the dongle to Node B or back to Node A. If you buy two of these dongles to use as a wireless serial connection between two PCs, for example, you'll need to change one dongle to be Node B.
