3-axis Accelerometer Board with ARM7 CPU, 1Mbit Flash, USB US$36.33

3-axis Accelerometer Board with ARM7 CPU, 1Mbit Flash, USB

The MOD-MMA7260Q is a 3-axis accelerometer board that can measure acceleration in X, Y and Z axes within a range up to 6g. It measures only 1.57 by 0.78 inches (40 by 20 mm) and features an AT91SAM7S64 ARM7 CPU, a mini-USB interface, and a 1Mbit serial Flash memory, which open up possibilities to implement many fun and interesting projects.

This board can be programmed via the USB port using Atmel's free SAM-BA ISP software.

Among the possible uses are a 3D-space "air mouse" where you can control a PC mouse cursor by the motions of your finger (with the third axis allowing for clicking), or a device to calculate vehicle performance. Rig it up with battery power and use it to log the time and speed of motion for an unmanned object, storing the data in the Flash to be downloaded later.

3-axis Accelerometer Board Features

  • Freescale MMA7260Q 3-axis accelerometer (software selectable 1.5g, 2g, 4g or 6g measurement)
  • Atmel AT91SAM7S64 ARM7 microcontroller
  • Atmel AT45DB011 1Mbit serial Flash for data logging
  • Mini-USB connector
  • PCB: FR-4, 1.5 mm (0.062"), green soldermask, white silkscreen component print
  • Dimensions: 40 x 20 mm (1.57 x 0.78")

Bin file and programming instructions

Downloading new code into the MOD-MMA7260Q

1. Download and install the SAM-BA software from Atmel's web site.
2. Short the TEST jumper
3. Plug in USB cable and wait 10 seconds
4. Unplug USB cable
5. Open TEST jumper
6. Plug in USB cable again
7. When asked for drivers, point to the driver folder in the SAM-BA installation
8. Start SAM-BA
9. Choose correct settings, i.e. COM port from Device Manager and AT91SAM7S64 controller
10. Click Connect
11. Load the MOD_MMA.bin file using the Browse button and press Write Flash to begin programming
There is a good help file on how to install the the drivers located in the SAM-BA /doc subfolder. If you need to load a new hex file, you have to convert it to a bin file using hex2bin.exe or some equivalent utility. There are many hex-to-bin converter tools available on the web. Choose one that suits your needs (operating system, architecture, etc.)
