A13-OLinuXino is a low-cost single-board Linux computer in a very compact form. It uses the Allwinner Technology A13 ARM Cortex-A8 processor in eLQFP176 package.
A13-OLinuXino is suitable for embedded programming enthusiasts, Linux gadget fans and also professionals since its low cost makes it a good solution for application-orientated embedded systems. It allows embedded software development without fully needing to understand the hardware side.
This version of the A13-OLinuXino does not come with a pre-built OS, as it does not have NAND Flash. The board can boot from a microSD card. A pre-built Debian Linux image is available to download, or you can purchase a microSD card with the Debian image already loaded; see below.
In addition, the official Debian 8.0 Jessie release now has a Device Tree Blob specific to this board.
This -MICRO version of the A13-OLinuXino does not have a power management unit, as it cannot run from batteries and the CPU is set to run constantly at maximum speed (it uses less than 2W power).
This board is an open-source hardware and software project; see the links below to participate in the development discussion.
A13 Development Board Features
- A13 Cortex A8 processor at 1 GHz, 3D Mali400 GPU
- 256 MB RAM (128Mbit × 16)
- 5V DC input power supply, noise-immune design (requires exactly 5V to the DC power jack)
- 1 USB Host
- 1 USB OTG which can power the board
- SD card connector for booting the Linux image
- VGA video output (800×600)
- LCD signals available on connector so you can use an LCD if you disable VGA/HDMI
- Audio output
- Pads for adding microphone input (connector not included)
- User button
- Four mounting holes
- UEXT connector for connecting additional modules (see below)
- GPIO connector with 68/74 pins and these signals:
17 for adding NAND Flash
22 for connecting LCD
20+4 including 8 GPIOs which can be input, output, or interrupt sources
SDIO2 for connecting SD cards and modules
5 system pins: +5V, +3.3V, GND, RESET, NMI
- Dimensions: 100 × 85 mm (3.95 × 3.35 inches)
Add-on UEXT Modules Available This board has a universal extension connector, UEXT, which allows you to add a peripheral module easily. The UEXT can provide I2C, RS232, SPI and power to the external device. Please see the UEXT Boards Category for a full list of modules that can plug into the UEXT port.
The A13-OLinuXino GitHub Page (see link below) contains example code for use with the following UEXT boards: MOD-BT, MOD-GSM, MOD-IO, MOD-LCD1x9, MOD-MAG, MOD-RFID125-BOX, MOD-RGB, MOD-RS485-ISO, MOD-TC-MK2, and MOD-ZIGBEE-UEXT.
Powering the Board There are two ways to power the A13-OLinuXino-MICRO. There is a 2.5mm barrel connector which you can use to connect a regulated 5V, 1A power supply (not included). The other option is to power it via USB OTG (the mini-USB connector), though that would limit the use of peripherals, e.g. not enough current to power an LCD. The MIKROE-192 voltage regulator/rectifier board can supply 5V at up to 1A from an 8V-16V AC or DC input. The PWR-CABLE can screw into the MIKROE-192's 5V output terminals; its other end is a 2.5mm barrel plug that can connect to this A13-OLinuXino-MICRO board.
A13 Development Board Resources Note: Because this version of the A13-OLinuXino does not have the PMU that the others do, you must use a Linux build specifically made for the A13-OLinuXino-MICRO. The builds for the base A13-OLinuXino and the A13-OLinuXino-WiFi will not work without modification.
Optional LCD Panels If, instead of a VGA monitor, you want to use a small LCD panel, you can add one using the checkboxes below. Note however that you will need the 2x20 IDC ribbon cable as well to connect the LCD, and will need to change a script.bin file for your OLinuXino board. See the instructions in the A13-OLinuXino-MICRO Wiki Page. (Note: As of 26 March 2014, the current Debian build for this MICRO version does not support a touch panel. Also, there are no pre-made scripts for LCD resolutions over 800×480.)
