  • PCF8583 clock and calendar chip with I2C interface
  • 24-hour or 12-hour format, programmable alarm, timer, and interrupt function
  • Four-year calendar supports leap-year
  • Configurable IDC10 interface
  • The RTC Board features a PCF8583 real-time clock IC that keeps track of the current time even when the microcontroller is turned off. The real-time clock is driven by a special battery that is not connected to the normal power supply. The board serves as an extension of development boards which need real time data for their operation.

    The board has a female IDC10 connector to plug it into a development system. It communicates with the host system via I2C. The DIP switch allows you to set which pins are used for SDA/SCL/INT, and the user manual explains the settings required for specific mikroElektronika development systems that have a matching IDC10 header.

    Use in your own design

    While this board was created originally for mikroElektronika's development systems, it's certainly possible to use in your own project. To do so, you may want to pick up IDC10 box headers that you can solder onto your PCB, or an EasyTEST board and jumper wires to wire it up however you need to.
