  • The LIN Board features an MCP201 that provides a physical interface between an MCU and a LIN half-duplex bus. It is intended for automotive and industrial applications with serial bus speeds up to 20 Kbaud. It also provides a half-duplex, bi-directional communication interface between an MCU and a serial network bus. It is used to convert CMOS/TTL logic levels to LIN logic level, and vice versa.

    This board has a screw terminal for 6V to 18V DC power supply, which is regulated to 5V. This voltage can be used to power a device via another screw terminal. The board connects to the LIN via a third screw terminal. Jumpers are used to set Master/Slave mode and Normal/Alternate Slope mode.

    The board communicates with a microcontroller's UART via a 25-pin female connector at the end of an attached ribbon cable. DIP switches on the board allow you to configure which pins are used for RX/TX, and to set Chip Select or Fault signals. The silkscreen and user manual specify settings that are compatible with the I/O port headers on various development systems by mikroElektronika.

    Use in your own design

    While this board was created originally for mikroElektronika's development systems, it's certainly possible to use in your own project. To do so, you may want to pick up IDC10 box headers that you can solder onto your PCB, or an EasyTEST board to wire it up easily.

    Note: This board is designed for 5V systems only. Be sure to use voltage translators on communication lines when connecting it to 3.3V systems.
