  • The IrDA board features the MCP2155 IrDA driver used for implementing IrDA standard wireless connectivity. The driver also handles IrDA standard protocol stack + bit encoding/decoding. It is used in Data Communication Equipment applications and placed between the UART side and the IR transceiver side. The board also has a TFDU4101 infrared transceiver module compliant with the latest IrDA physical layer standard for fast infrared data communication.

    The DIP switches on the board allow you to configure which pins on the IDC10 interface are used for RX/TX, and to enable or disable RTS, CTS, DTR and DSR control lines. The user manual and silkscreen specify settings which are compatible with 2x5 port headers on PIC, AVR and 8051 development systems by mikroElektronika, so you can plug this board directly into one of those systems without needing to solder anything.

    Use in your own design

    While this board was created originally for mikroElektronika's development systems, it's certainly possible to use in your own project. To do so, you may want to pick up IDC10 box headers that you can solder onto your PCB, or an EasyTEST board to wire it up easily.

    Two jumpers on the board allow you to select between four baud rates: 9600, 19200, 57600, 115200.
