MC9S08RG60 Programmer and Debugger Overview inDART-HCS08/RG60 is a powerful entry-level tool for Freescale (Motorola) HCS08-based systems. This HCS08 in-circuit debugger takes advantage of the Metrowerks CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (which groups an Editor, Assembler, C Compiler and Debugger) and Motorola's BDM interface, which allows the download of the user application into the HCS08 microcontroller's Flash memory. Together with CodeWarrior, the HCS08 ISP programmer & debugger provides you with everything you need to write, compile, download, in-circuit emulate and debug HCS08 code. Full-speed program execution allows you to perform hardware and software testing in real time. The HCS08 inDART is connected to (and powered by) the host PC through a USB connection. Debugging capabilities include: Reset, Start, Stop, Single Step, Step Over, Step Out; One Hardware Breakpoint MC9S08RG60 Evaluation Board inDART-HC08/RG60 includes a full-featured evaluation board specific for MC9S08RG60 microcontrollers (a MC9S08RG60 device in QFP64 package is included). The evaluation board includes DIP-switches, jumpers, LEDs, push-buttons, a potentiometer, prototyping area and a standard BDM connector and can be used for evaluation/experiments in the absence of a target application board. HCS08 In-System Programming (ISP) The ISP feature allows you to update the content of the 68HCS08 Flash program memory when the chip is already soldered onto the application board. All MCUs in the HCS08 Family contain a single-wire background debug module (BDM) interface which supports in-circuit programming of on-chip non-volatile memory and sophisticated non-intrusive debug capabilities. Unlike debug interfaces on earlier 8-bit MCUs, this system does not interfere with normal application resources. It does not use any user memory or locations in the memory map and does not share any on-chip peripherals. The background debug controller (BDC) uses a single-wire communication interface to allow non-intrusive access to target system memory and registers. inDART-HCS08 series tools use the standard, 6-pin BDM connector defined by Motorola to program and debug the target device. 68HCS08 CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment The CodeWarrior Development Studio for Motorola HCS08 Microcontrollers enables you to build and deploy HCS08 systems quickly and easily. This tool suite provides the capabilities required by every engineer in the development cycle, from board bring-up to firmware development to final application development. With a common, project-based, development environment, re-use becomes a natural by-product as each team builds on the work already completed by the previous team. CodeWarrior Development Studio for HCS08 Microcontrollers, Special Edition, includes the CodeWarrior integrated development environment (IDE); 4 KB code-size limited C compiler and C source-level debugger; macro assembler and Assembly-level debugger and Flash programming support. CodeWarrior is Windows 98/2000/XP compatible.
