The monitor EPROM serves two important functions: It allows you to communicate with the 68HC11 board via a PC's serial interface for debugging and downloading of your code, and it also works as a boot EPROM, which brings the 68HC11 microcontroller up to a predetermined stage after the power-on sequence. The 32k bytes of RAM on the 68HC11 training board are used to store your program and data variables. The expansion bus connector on the 68HC11 board allows you to connect to your own custom board.
