This is a shield for standard Arduino R3 boards, containing a 16×2 alphanumeric LCD and four large buttons. The display has a backlight and uses the Hitachi HD44780U controller. It accepts commands via UART or I2C.
The board comes with pins populated, so you can plug it in right out of the box. It has mounting holes both on the PCB and on the LCD module, so you can secure it tightly to your Arduino main board.
Note that this shield has R3-compatible pins. Older Arduinos will leave some pins hanging un-connected.
