The selection table below lists the 8051 emulator componentsthat are required to emulate a particular Philips/NXP 8051 derivative and package. Some emulators for Philips/NXP 8051 microcontrollers are built from three modules: A Main Board, an exchangeable POD board and an exchangeable Package Adapter. Those emulators have an entry/link in each column of the table below. You need to order at least one main board, POD board and package adapter to receive a complete 8051 emulator. - Advantage of modular emulators:The same Main Board in combination with different PODs and package adapters can be used to emulate any supported 8051 derivative from other manufacturers. A second type of 8051 emulator combines main board, POD and package adapter onto a single board.These are called dedicated emulators, as there is no exchangeable "POD" to support different 8051 derivatives. With these emulators you only need to order the component listed under the "main board" column to receive a complete 8051 emulator. - Advantage: Simplified ordering and lower cost
Emulation of SOIC or SSOP packages often requires an additional DIP-SOIC/SSOP adapter. How to use this selection guide: - Locate the part number of the Philips 8051 microcontroller you want to emulate in the "Target MCU" column of the table below.
